Write it. Sing it. Make it yours
Adapt Olga Anikina’s Russian lyric into singable English. Keep her images, word meanings, expressions and structure. No Russian needed. Write, sing or collaborate.

Literal English and idiom notes are working materials, not finished lyrics.
The song’s story
Anikina answers poverty, regret and mortality with singing, dancing and hospitality: a warm, wry celebration of being alive.
Hava Nagila began as a Sadigora Hasidic melody; Abraham Zvi Idelsohn adapted it with Hebrew words in 1918.
Olga Anikina's Russian text (2009) creates its own story rather than translating those short Hebrew words.
Start from Olga’s Russian
Her Russian text is our starting point. Olga reimagines earlier songs while keeping their spirit.
Keep her images, word meanings, expressions and structure. Make the English sing without replacing her story.
Producer-confirmed: exclusive rights to these Russian lyrics. Rights to underlying music and recordings are separate.
Russian → literal English
Meaning to work from, not words to sing.
Complete 75-line Russian master, including every repetition and partial-word buildup. English explains meaning; it is not a singable adaptation.

Idioms & meaning
Встань с той ноги да
Literal: Get up on that [right] foot, now.
A positive reversal of the Russian expression for getting up on the wrong side of the bed. The point is waking in the right mood, not merely beginning an undertaking successfully.
Было да сплыло
Literal: It happened and has passed away.
What is past is past; it cannot be brought back. Keep the shrug and the lightness, not a tone of bereavement.
У рубахи два кармана / Нам о смерти думать рано
Literal: The shirt has two pockets. It is too early for us to think about death.
One obvious fact is followed by another equally obvious fact: the shirt has two pockets, and thoughts of death can wait. Keep the deadpan parallelism, without a mystical explanation or a claim about every shirt.
Каблуков не жаль
Literal: We do not mind wearing out the heels.
The shoes are already torn, so there is no reason to spare their heels while dancing. The thought is practical and playful, not mournful.
Курам на смех
Literal: Enough to make even chickens laugh.
An idiom for something laughable or ridiculous. 'Chicken feed' is not exact: it narrows the phrase to a small amount of money.
Отпоём отпляшем
Literal: We will sing them away and dance them away.
The implied object is the sins just mentioned. Preserve the paired physical actions without inventing a doctrine of atonement.
