Measurement

15.1. The central metric error

Views alone cannot define success. Paid impressions, accidental autoplay and brief curiosity can inflate reach without adoption. The main object of measurement should be the movement from attention to ownership of the song by listeners.

15.3. A matched pilot

To test language rather than merely compare different songs, use matched versions:

  1. the same melody, similar duration and comparable visual quality;
  2. original-language, English and, where appropriate, bilingual excerpts;
  3. equal small promotional budgets and identical audiences;
  1. outcomes defined in advance, including completion, save or share intent, and desire to hear the full song;
  2. a brief comprehension and emotion survey;
  3. reporting of every result, including negative findings.

The test does not replace an organic release. It prevents the creator's belief from being confused with listener behavior.

15.4. The decision after three songs

After three lighthouse releases, choose among three paths:

  • Scale English-first: English versions perform consistently better with unfamiliar Anglophone listeners.
  • Scale bilingual: a cultural hook plus English context works better than a full English treatment.
  • Original-first with an English story layer: the music crosses language on its own, while translation works better in subtitles and story pages.

Any of these outcomes creates knowledge. The study defends a method of testing, not one predetermined answer for every song.
